Are you experiencing any of the following?
- Tight or painful muscles
- Restrictions in your range of motion
- Part of your body feeling “off”
If you answered “yes” to any of the above, you may benefit from dry needling!
What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a technique that can be used to help treat pain, and movement dysfunction. A very thin, “dry” needle (meaning that nothing is being injected into the body) is used to target trigger points or “knots” within the muscle. This has been shown to help decrease pain, reduce muscle tension, and normalize the dysfunction.
In contrast to acupuncture which is based in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling targets more specific tissues that are found to be problematic. While the needles used are similar, the needles are applied in a different manner and for a different purpose.
Dry needling can be a highly effective way to reset tight or painful muscles back to a more functional state. However, for chronic or recurring issues, you may have better, longer lasting results with a more comprehensive treatment approach. Oftentimes, the place where you feel pain or tightness is only the result of an impairment somewhere else in the body that you may not even be aware of. To fully address your concerns and keep you feeling happy and healthy for the long term, you might consider starting with a physical therapy consultation.
